The Fundamentals of C&I Lighting Conference to be held at the GE Lighting and Electrical Institute, Cleveland, OH, will provide basic product and application training for commercial and industrial lighting. This program contains lectures and full-scale lighting demonstrations that create an interesting, fast-paced, comprehensive lighting conference. Topics include: lighting terminology, lighting measurements and color, an overview of major light source families and systems, lighting economics and application modules for retail, office, industrial and outdoor lighting. The course covers circuit breakers, controls, dry-type transformers, modular metering, capacitors and panel-boards. It focuses on small project take-offs and pricing, with hands-on practice with SpeediWin software and real product samples. The Designers Lighting Forum of New York with support form the IES New York Section will present “LEDucation IV.” Held at the Hotel Pennsylvania, New York, this event now in its fourth year is considered a key place to learn about what’s next in the world of LED lighting. IES Sections are offering a webcast entitled “Sustainable Lighting Control for Residences and Commercial Building Commissioning,” at 7 pm (EST). This webcast enables participants to learn how controls can lower energy use while providing a variety of options for different at-home tasks, including family rooms, media rooms, home offices, exterior security lighting and daylight control for residential projects; how to engage with local contractors for installation and training, as well as program “tweaking” on a long-term basis; how commercial commissioning is becoming more important in ensuring that controls are properly installed and operated according to specifications. Learn how to start a project with the right tools and design controls in mind, plus the tips and pitfalls of the end-of-project commissioning process. Lighting Retrofits. This three-day conference to be held at the GE Lighting and Electrical Institute, Cleveland, OH, is geared to facility managers and engineers, specialists for energy service companies, and others who are involved with the specification and implementation of energy-saving strategies. Lighting retrofits provide some of the easiest, most direct ways to reduce energy consumption. Through lectures and hands-on workshops, participants will learn about the latest technologies and the energy-saving opportunities that they provide in applications that include: retail, industrial, office and healthcare. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 and its tax incentives for retrofits are reviewed in detail. A variety of guest speakers add their perspectives on topics including retrofit financing and electric utility trends. The IES Roadway Lighting Committee will hold its Spring meeting at the Atlanta Airport Marriott, Atlanta, GA.
